The Allamakee County Emergency Management Agency recommends county residents take time to perform three simple steps to ensure they and their families are prepared for any potential emergencies or disasters by making an emergency plan, building an emergency kit and being aware of the hazards they may face to include severe weather, hazardous materials, infrastructure impacts, fires and pandemics.

Please take time to evaluate your readiness and to aid in this process we have provided online resources and links to several preparedness sites.

Please take pictures of all damage if it is safe to do so and keep a copy of any expenses paid.

Watch out for any down powerlines and always consider them as dangerous and immediately contact your power provider and if on the road, please call 911 to let them know also.

Allamakee County Disaster Volunteers

ALLAMAKEE COUNTY DISASTER VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are individuals accepted to perform services by an authorized organization who have the authority to accept volunteer services and would be when the individual performs services without promise, expectation, or receipt of compensation for services performed.

There are two primary types of volunteers:

  1. Affiliated Volunteers: are those who are attached to a recognized organization and are trained for specific disaster response activities. Their relationship with the organization precedes the immediate incident, and they are invited by that organization to become involved in a specific aspect of emergency management.  The organization they are affiliated with is responsible for training, deploying, assigning, ensuring safety, evaluating, and demobilizing its volunteers.  Locally, these volunteers are part of the Allamakee County Emergency Response Volunteer Program and would fall under the authority of the Allamakee County Emergency Management Agency.  Other examples include the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
  1. Unaffiliated Volunteers: are also known as spontaneous volunteers and are individuals who offer to help or self-deploy to assist in emergency situations without fully coordinating their activities. They are considered “unaffiliated” in that they are not part of a disaster relief organization and normally only make themselves available when a need is present following a disaster or emergency.
